Back to Togo

Sometimes we still have to pinch ourselves that we live in Africa! This is a beautiful and unique continent and a good rainy season means that everything has turned green again after months of red dust. Here is a glimpse of our arrival back in Togo, the drive up the main national highway to Mango, and the first couple of week of this school year.

We spent the first two days in the capital city of Lomé, buying groceries and supplies before the 10 hour van ride up to Mango. Lomé is a port city and the ABWE missionaries have an arrangement with a little hotel on the coast where most of our travelers stay as they come and go.

The landscape all the way up the N1 highway was green and beautiful. Unfortunately, a large section of the road in the middle of the country is still under reconstruction, so the trip up to Mango is taking longer than it used to. We arrived at the HoH compound just before dinner time and were given a warm welcome and lots of help unloading our belongings. We stayed at the guesthouse for a few days as we got settled into our new living quarters.

We are renting a small “dependance” (like a MIL Quarters) on the property belonging to one of our ABWE colleagues. It has a main living room/kitchen/dining area on the left and two bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms on the right. It will be a comfortable arrangement for this year and we have already found the water supply and electricity to be more reliable on this side of town. Our new location is about a 6 or 7 minute drive from the compound and the dirt roads were recently leveled, so it has been an easy commute so far.

Once we got ourselves settled into our new home, it was time to tackle getting the MK school ready. There was a lot of cleaning and organizing to do after four months off, but things came together just in time for the first day of school on September 9th.
